Finnigan
Finnigan has been at WildCat Ridge Sanctuary since 2019 when he escaped from his owner in Portland. He lives alone because he let us know he didn’t want a friend. He’s settled in and doing great but doesn’t care for humans. The only thing we’re good for is to bring him food and toys ๐
*Posted in April 2019, “We are very excited to share the escaped caracal that was in the Portland news last week is now a permanent resident of WildCat Ridge Sanctuary ๐ We want to thank the state vet at the Oregon Dept of Agriculture and Multnomah Animal Control for reaching out to see if we could help.
This is a typical story of a naive new owner being lied to by a breeder. This cat came from out of state and was said to be a ‘Caracat’ which the breeder said could be kept legally. However, the paperwork was marked that the cat was a ‘Savannah cat’. Of course, he is neither one of these, he is an African Caracal.
Breeders work hard to get around the laws so they can keep breeding and selling. This is one of the many reasons that the Big Cat Public Safety Act should be passed to stop this. (https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/1818)
The caracal is not quite two years old, in good health, and not declawed ๐He is a bit nervous but curious, exploring his new space and we know he will settle in just fine. Make a donation to help with his care ๐”
