Hobbes
Hobbes was born 2013 in Oklahoma at the infamous Joe Exotic’s place, along with his brother Calvin. They were pulled from their mother and used as photo cubs for the first 12 weeks of their lives then sold to a roadside zoo called Serenity Springs Wildlife Center.
There they lived in small, barren pens, with nothing but stone to walk on and a cement bunker as shelter. USDA had written up the facility over and over for neglect and improper care. In October of 2016, Serenity Springs sold the facility including all the animals to Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge. Together with Tigers in America, TCWR went to work finding homes for over 100 big cats with other accredited sanctuaries across the United State.
WildCat Ridge Sanctuary offered to take in four of the tigers and Calvin and Hobbes were the first to arrive in Oregon on November 14th, 2016. Hobbes is the more dominant of these two boys but at some point when they were cubs, Calvin bit off the end of Hobbes tail! Thankfully it doesn’t bother him in any way. We look forward to learning more about these gorgeous tigers!
